Role: Junior Designer (NPC + Vault Boss Design)

Time on this project: June 2018 - September 2019 (Launch)

My Responsibilities

Job Description:

Work directly with Mission Designers, Level Designers, and Level Artist to create NPCs that players would interact with or fight along with throughout the game.

Provided feedback and behavior ideas for Vault Bosses

NPC:

  • Responsible for main NPC combat distances based on their weapons and combat style (Zero, Lorelei, Maya, Lilith)

  • Responsible for adding NPC actions when walking around a hub waiting for missions

  • Created multiple neutral and combat NPCs for side missions and helped Mission Designers with functionality 

  • Setup routes and functionality for NPCs in outskirts

  • Setup routes and actions for NPCs in Sanctuary 

  • Helped with level detailing with related NPCs

  • Attached animations for NPC conversations

  • Worked on attaching combat functionality for friendly NPCs via animation tags

Vault Boss:
Responsibilities were to playtest lead's work on all Vault Bosses then offer feedback and come up with different attacks for the lead to implement and test out.

Original ideas that Lead used for the final game:
Troy:

  • Radial Sphere projectiles after slamming into the center of the arena

Misc:

  • Helped level artist with Outskirts by doing a simple first pass of level detailing

  • Helped clean up NPC environments to achieve believable AI behavior and clean pathing routes with interactable objects
